EXPLORA Family Day success!

Thank you EXPLORA for an amazing Family Day!

Saturday Dec. 8th, 2018.

Explora came to the Mora Luna Library to show our kids how to have fun while learning. Following their personal mission of “creating opportunities for inspirational discovery and the joy of lifelong learning through interactive experiences in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.”

We had the pleasure of having Hali and Lauren as our Explora staff members. They are passionate educators that showed our kids how easy it is to create fun and to interact with many different activities. All of the activities teach as you touch and play.

We had seven different activities going on all at once. Giving the kids the option to move on to something that would create more curiosity for them.

Some of the activities that the kids enjoyed was: the circuit board, where the kids learned how to use wires with alligator clips design to complete electrical circuits, microscopes where kids took a closer look to common, everyday objects, weaving, that teaches how to create patterns out of string or fabric, balance sculpture where they placed clothespins on the dowels and tried to create a “sculpture” that didn’t tip the base, scribble machines that draw. We all tried to make a motorized contraption that vibrates and moves in unusual ways while making its path on paper.

We had the pleasure of having kids from the Girl Scouts community, Down Syndrome Awareness, and from Sierra Vista along many beautiful faces from the community of Mora.

Definitely the most popular activity was the Spirograph. The kids loved creating different figures with them figuring out the patherns for their creations.

Here is Ariana, from Sierra Vista, showing us how creative she got with the spirograph machine. Everyone made beautiful creations they could take home.

We had a successful Family Day Saturday afternoon. It helped us talk to the community about the importance of interaction with many everyday household objects and with some technical equipment,  where kids learned that science is fun. It helps create an environment of curiosity which helps build enjoyment of education in their future.

This event would not have been possible without the help of United Way of Northern New Mexico that has a vision for resilient children and families so that more families have opportunities to thrive.

Thank you for your support! We look forward to more Explora Family Days in the futrue.
