Purse Project – Mora Mountain Momma’s The Purse Project Connie Krusemark and her husband Ken have been volunteering at the Las Vegas soup kitchen, Comedors for 6 years. Seeing the needs of homeless and transiant patrons, the idea for the purse project came to fruition. At the Mora Mountain Momma meetings the ladies find a used purse (there are tons in great condition) and fill them with items for personal hygiene, protein bars, woman's needs, gum, life savers, socks, handi wipes, hand sanitizer, lip balm, cash, prayer notes, and so on. The purse is obviously easy to carry and a great way to make a present for someone in need. (You can also research 'Blessing Bags' for more ideas). The men are not left out. Some of our ladies have the good fortune to have travelers in their families. They provide the first class care kits which usually look like a shaving kit. Similarly these are filled with specific items for men in need. This is a project that happens a couple times a year. It is a quick way for the whole group to make an impact in a short time. Each lady just brings a completed purse to one of the monthly meetings and Connie brings them to soup service. If you are interested in participating, please see Connie's information below. In addition to the purses, the soup kitchen would love to recycle your plastic grocery bags. They hand out food twice a week, double bagged. They are often running out of the bags we are always trying to recycle. Interested in joining some of the fun activities the Mora Mountain Mommas do? They meet the second Monday of the month at different locations. The meetings have guest speakers, activities and a potluck. Some of the meetings include a plant exchange, mani/pedicure trip, gardening tips, craft project, and so on.
